The Gorge Winds Music Director has provided guidelines for membership eligibility.
- The Gorge Winds is an “Adult” band.
- The definition of “adult” is “a musician age 18 or more”.
- Musicians under age 18 shall be defined as “Younger” musicians.
- Younger musicians may be allowed to join The Gorge Winds, subject to the following:
- He/She must be invited to join by the Gorge Winds Concert Band Music Director or his designated representative.
- He/she must demonstrate musical proficiency to the Music Director or his designated representative.
- If still enrolled in school, he/she is encouraged to maintain membership in the school musical organization (provided the school has a one).
- If a younger musician is not enrolled in a school musical organization, he/she may still join the Gorge Winds Concert Band with parental permission.
- School music performances normally take precedence over Gorge Winds Concert Band events unless agreed otherwise by both school music director and the Gorge Winds Concert Band Music Director.
- We, the leadership of the Gorge Winds Concert Band, encourage regular participation and home practice by every member, because that's how we become one viable and cohesive musical unit.
- Each of us have families and jobs, and each of us become ill at times, but after these ‘duties’, we wish for the GWCB to be first in your lives.
- Because we’re a volunteer group, we cannot dismiss anyone for poor attendance; nor do we wish to do that. At the same time, those who attend regularly should be rewarded.
- Section principals should set the example of excellent attendance. If a section principal will be absent for some time, the music director may assign the responsibility to another qualified musician.
